Shenzhen, 29 April 2018 – With the support of the Maritime Continental Silk Road Cities Alliance and the Maritime Continental Silk Road Entrepreneurs Alliance, the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Bahrain, together with the Shenzhen Federation of Youth Entrepreneurship Promotion and the Galaxy Holding Group, have successfully completed a special capacity building programme to institutionalize the Shenzhen “Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme”. The four-day programme trained 28 participants on entrepreneurship and innovation services and initiated the drafting of an entrepreneurship strategy for Shenzhen.
On 22 April 2018, the Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion (EDIP) Centre in Shenzhen was officially launched. During the opening ceremony, CHEN Daixing, a member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, stated: “The launch of the EDIP Centre is the result of discussions held in September 2013 between His Majesty King Hamad and President XI Jinping, which aimed at deepening the friendly relations and economic partnership between Bahrain and China”.
On 23 April 2018, during a press conference held at the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, ZHU Yueren, Vice-Minister of Liaison and United Front Work Department of the Shenzhen Communist Youth League announced the nomination of Hashim Hussein, Head of ITPO Bahrain, as Vice Chairman of the 2nd Shenzhen Youth International Conference, and of ITPO Bahrain as a co-organizer of the Conference.
“Shenzhen is a most innovative city”, said Hussein, “and one of China’s economic hubs. The Shenzhen EDIP Centre will therefore help instill and unleash entrepreneurship and innovation locally and regionally, with the aim of expanding this new spirit into other parts of China. In addition, it will serve as a platform for the ITPO Bahrain network of entrepreneurs – present in 52 countries already – to develop partnerships, technology transfer and joint investments”.
Under the theme “Positive Role of Youth in Coping with Future Challenges”, the 2nd Shenzhen Youth International Conference will take place from 12 to 14 August 2018, and will convene youth from around the world while facilitating the sharing of experiences. Other participants include entrepreneurs, innovators, universities, entrepreneurship support agencies, as well as financial and non-financial institutions.
